Since 1937 the Cinema Industry Benevolent Fund of Victoria, CIBF, has assisted present and past members of the industry – and/or their immediate families – who incur financial stress through ill health, loss of employment, accident, death or other misfortune. The CIBF has also allocated in excess of $300,000 for educational scholarship awards since 1994 and provided over$1.6m in benevolent assistance. The CIBF’s fundraising activities include movie luncheons, raffles, golf days and other events.
Every person engaged in the cinema industry in Victoria, the Riverina District of NSW, and Tasmania is, by virtue of our constitution, a member of the Benevolent Fund. This includes proprietors, managers, projectionists, ticket sellers, floor and candy bar staff, cleaners, all film distribution company personnel, and projection and sound equipment providers and service personnel.
The support available is principally financial, but the Fund’s records are studded with a wide variety of aid given to personnel of all ages and in all sections of the industry. You’ll find information on how we help here on the website.
Education Scholarships are available to children and/or dependants of past and present employees of the cinema industry and to students who are currently so employed. Approximately 16 scholarships (VCE years 11 & 12 and tertiary level) are available each year.
